AGARWALS

"Agarwals" have been one of the most respectable and enterprising mercantile community of Bharat since last 5150 years.

Agarwals are descendants of Maharaj Agarsain & originally inhabitants of Kingdom of "Agroha" founded by him near Hisar in Haryana region. Therefore we are not just a community but part of same family.

The Government of India issued a postage stamp in honour of Maharaj Agarsain in 1976 on occasion of his 5100th jayanti.

Maharaj Agarsain was a king of Suryavanshi dynasty. He was grandson of Maharaja Mahindar of Pratapnagar, eldest son of Maharaja Vallabh & his mother was Queen Bagwati Devi.

King Agarsain was the elder brother of Shoorsen who was grand father of Balarama and Krishna  of Mahabharata. He was descendant of King Yayati of Khandavprastha.

Birth of Prince Agarsain took place about 5138 years ago at last stage of Davaapar Yug. As a young prince he attended the sawyamvar of Princess Madhavi who was daughter of Naagvansh King Kumud. Princess put the auspicious garland on Agarsain, thus became his wife.

A Neighboring King who intended to marry Princess Madhavi, became very jealous and angry with couple. To get revenge he besieged PratapNagar. As a result, residents of Pratapnagar faced immense trouble .

Prince Agarsain then waged war and with dharma on his side, his army defeated Enemy's army. To ensure long term peace Agarsain started praying to Lord Shiva in city of Kashi.

Pleased with the prayers of Agarsain, Lord Shiva appeared and advised him to pray for Goddess Mahalakshmi. Then Agarsain again started praying to Goddess Mahalakshmi, who appeared and blessed Agarsain and suggested that he should lay down arms & take up the tradition of business for the sake of prosperity of his people. She then asked him to found a new kingdom and promised that she would bless his descendants with prosperity.

Agarsain traveled all over India with his queen to select a place for a new kingdom. At one point during his travels, he found a few tiger cubs and wolfs cubs playing together. To King Agrasena and Queen Madhavi, this was an auspicious indication that the area was veerabhoomi and they decided to found their new kingdom at that location.

With Blessings of Mahalakshmi Maharaj Agarsain build a very wealthy and developed kingdom of "Agroha", 51 years before Great War of Mahabharat.  Kingdom of Agarsain is even mentioned in Mahabharat.

The kingdom of Agarsain flourished and extended from Himalayas, Punjab, the valley of Yamuna, and the Mewar region. Agra was a prominent place being the capital of the southern part of the kingdom.

The other important regions were Gurgaon (ancient Gaudagrama), the goddess mother of this place is revered by Agrawals; Meerut, Rohtak, Hansi, Panipat, Karnal, and Kotkangra.

The famous temple of Mahamaya, the Kuladevi of Agarwals is located at Kotknagra. Mandi, Vilaspur, Garhwal, Narnaul were all the parts of the kingdom. Agroha was the capital of the kingdom.

Agrasen ki Baoli in Connaught Place, Delhi was originally built by King Agarsain during rule and rebuilt in the 14th century by the Agrawal community.

Maharaj Agarsain eldest son was Vibhu. He practiced Vanik Religion. He was icon of non-violence and messenger of Peace. He is known for his compassion towards all by his refusal to slaughter animals in yajnas.

Maharaj Agarsain conducted 18 Maha Yagnas. He then divided his kingdom among his 18 children and established the 18 gotras after the guru's of each of his children. Today these 18 gotras even though they are different from each other, still relate to each other to form a united community.

Following are the eighteen gotras of Agrawals: Garg, Bansal, Bindal, Bhandal, Dharan, Airan, Goyal, Goyan, Jindal, Kansal, Kuchhal, Madhukul, Mangal, Mittal, Nangal, Singhal, Tayal, Tingle.

Agroha Kingdom consisted of 18 state units. The head of each state unit was given a Gotra. All the residents of that particular state unit were identified by that Gotra.

It was maintained by Maharaja Agarsain that a nupital alliance could not take place in the same Gotra. That is a girl of "Goel" Gotra could not marry a "Goel boy"', but could be married in any of the other 17 Gotra. This rule enunciated by Maharaja Agarsain ensured genetics diversity, promoted brotherhood among all the 18 Gotra represented by state units.

Saffron Flag of Maharaja Agarsain is 18 inch width and 27 inch length is a symbol of nonviolence. Flag has V-shape cut of 9 inch with symbol of Surya in front. Surya have 18  Rays representation of 18 gotra. One silver colored Brick and One Rupees in Flag represent Maharaja Agarsain philosophy of brotherhood & cooperation.

Maharaja Agarsain is known as icon of non-violence , messenger of Peace, Sacrifice, Compassion and Prosperity. He was not only a King but also a leader for upliftment of the down trodden.

Maharaja Agrasen was a Karmyogi who conjured prosperity for all. He devised a unique rule in order to ensure equality in society. He propagated  that any person coming to Agroha to settle down permanently, shall be given one rupee, one brick, by each of the one hundred thousand residents of Agroha. With the bricks new immigrant could build a house for living and with the money so collected he could set up his own business. This way through a small help from others each person could attain a equal status in the society.

His belief in nonviolence did not mean non-resistance to oppression, rather he promoted self defence. According to him self protection and national defence were not the task of only kshatryas rather it is the duty of each citizen to protect and safeguard his motherland.

The ideas of Equality, Socialism, compassion, sharing, brotherhood, charity propounded by Maharaja Agarsain 5000 years back are evident even in the present Constitution of India.

We all must to cultivate these ideals of Maharaj Agarsain into our lives and bring glory & prosperity of our motherland.
